Trap

International Trap

American Trap

Singles

American Trap is shot 16 yards behind a traphouse which throws targets away from the shooters at 45m.p.h. The targets are thrown at the same vertical height but oscillate laterally for either left, right, or straightaway targets. The 5 shooters stand at 5 stations and each take a shot at a bird until they have each shot 5 birds at that station. Then they rotate to the next station, (1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 1). A round is 25 birds, a normal event is 4 rounds or 100 birds. The guns used usually have chokes anywhere from Light-Modified, Modified, Improved Modified, or Full choke. One shot per target.

Handicap Trap

A way to make the game of Trap harder is to move the shooters back, anywhere from 19 to 27 yards behind the house, not 16yds. This calls for a different technique and a tighter choked gun, (Improved Modified or Full.) One shot per target.

Doubles Trap

Doubles Trap is an event shot from the 16 yard line. Two targets are thrown at the same angles and elevation all the time. The targets are slightly higher than the Single Targets and a bit faster as well. One shot per target, 2 shots total. One round is 50 targets.

Wobble Trap

Another variation of Trap is Wobble Trap. This game is identical to Trap Singles except that there is also a vertical oscillation on the throwing machine, so the elevation for every target can vary.

Singles

International Trap is a cheaper version to true Olympic Trap, (which is a.k.a. Bunker). International trap is identical to Wobble Trap except for two very important differences, the first being that the targets are much faster! They are thrown at 90m.p.h. You are allowed two shots at every target. The 2nd difference is that a squad is made up of six shooters, and they are always in constant motion from station to station. You shoot one bird at station 1, wait for the shooter at #2 to shoot, then rotate, and so on and so forth.

American Skeet

Skeet is a shooting style on a field of 8 stations in a semi-circle. The two houses, the high house and the low house each throw a target on the same flight path every pull. A round is 25 birds. On your first miss, you take your option shot, which is that first target you missed thrown again. Stations 1, 2, 6, and 7 each have a single thrown from each house, and a true pair shooting the closer house first. Stations 3, 4, 5, and 8 each only have a single from each house. The targets are thrown at the same speed as American Trap, 45 m.p.h.

Doubles

Doubles Skeet is a variation of Regular Skeet, where no single targets are thrown. A true Doubles Skeet event is 50 targets between a round of 24 and 26. Shooters work form stations 1 to 7 and back down to either 2 or 1, shooting only the true pair of the High and Low birds from those stations.

Olympic Skeet (a.k.a. International)

Olympic Skeet targets are thrown at 90 m.p.h. There are again 2 large differences between this game and the American version. The first is that you call the bird while in low-gun. This means that the gun is not mounted on your shoulder, and you cannot mount until you see the bird. The 2nd difference is that the bird has a zero to three second delay from when you call pull for it to be thrown. Target presentation is also different. Stations 1, 2, and 3 each have a high house single, and then a double target thrown. Station 4 has a single target from each house and then two doubles shot in different order. Stations 5 and 6 have a low house single and a double. Station 7 only has a double. Station 8 has two singles again. A round is 25 birds; an event 100 or 4 rounds.

Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays is best described as golf with a gun. Several stations over a large area are used to present many different types of shots, with different types of targets. Sporting Clays consists of single targets, and two types of pairs. Report pairs is the first kind; the shooter calls for the first target and fires. At the firing at the first target the second bird is pulled after hearing the report of the shotgun going off. A true pair is a pair thrown simultaneously. A round can be shot of either 25, 50, or 100 targets.

5 Stand

5 Stand is a condensed version of Sporting Clays with 5 stations set up on a trap & skeet field. There are extra traps that throw the various targets: teals, rabbits, battues, chandelles, etc. Each station has a single target that can be fired twice at, a report pair, and a true pair. 5 Shooters fire and rotate much like in the game of Trap.
